Like many people, Matt Schaller found the financial crisis of 2008 changed him. During the ensuing recession Matt observed people making reactive and emotional financial decisions. Realizing the brokerage world he was in was not offering independent financial advice, he made the decision to further his career in finance by obtaining both the CFP® and CFA® designations and becoming a registered investment advisor.
“The CFA® has helped me not only evaluate client investments, but to also understand behavioral finance,” Matt said. “The biggest thing I’ve learned over my career is no two clients are the same. As I talk with people I seek to understand what their hot button is –whether it is somebody who is navigating transferring wealth to the next generation, or maybe it is someone who is concerned about needing long-term care because their parents had Alzheimer’s –everyone has a different fear, worry, or something they need help with. I have learned how to design a customized plan to fit their specific goals.”
Matt comes to Moneta as an Advisor with over 10 years of experience in the financial services industry. Equipped with both a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)® designation and being a Certified Financial Planner™ professional, Matt brings astute conflict-free expertise to the Compardo, Wienstroer, Conrad and Janes Team.
Owing to the complex nature of investment vehicles in our industry, having a CFA® designation has allowed Matt to serve as another advocate for our clients’ best interests. For family office clientele and high net worth individuals the industry can sometimes be a breeding ground for intentionally complicated products. By reviewing prospectuses which include fine print and complicated wording, Matt makes sure the investments will benefit the family and fit with their investment goals.
Outside of the office Matt finds he and his wife Elise are always on the go. They especially enjoy taking their two girls to the Botanical Gardens and the Zoo. Matt is also an avid home brewer.
“Whether it’s protecting my client’s assets for generations to come, or keeping their family story alive, or helping them achieve their goals, I make sure I’m in the background making their lives easier. Helping them to avoid making emotional financial decisions so they can achieve all their financial goals –and ultimately that is asset preservation and asset growth done correctly -is what I enjoy doing the most.”
