Andrew Kelsen

Chief Investment Officer

As the Head of Alternative Investments at Moneta, Andrew Kelsen is the interface between Partner Teams, operations, portfolio management and the alternative investment universe. He leads the sourcing, due diligence and ongoing oversight of the alternative investment solutions Moneta delivers. He also provides guidance on legacy alternative positions to Partner Teams, producing research on alternative investments and providing mentorship and knowledge sharing with the entire Investments Team.

Andrew is a passionate multi-class professional. He has overseen origination, screening, evaluation, negotiation, portfolio construction and monitoring of private equity, hedge fund, real estate, timberland and fixed income investments.

Andrew began his career in 1987 on Wall Street in retail brokerage, fixed income trading and commodities trading. From there he went to Chicago and spent a number of years at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Chicago Board of Trade specializing in interest derivatives and fixed income options. Later moving to Atlanta, he ran fixed income and equity trading and underwriting operations before moving into investment consulting. Returning to Chicago, he served as both alternative investment research head and consultant, as well as a hedge fund portfolio manager at a family office. Most recently Andrew was the Alternative Investment Portfolio Manager and Interim Chief Investment Officer of the award winning $13 billion Chicago Teachers Pension Fund.

Andrew majored in Economics and Military History at Norwich University and Keene State College. He also completed post graduate work at the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry. Outside of the office, Andrew lives in Naperville, IL with his wife. They have two children at Southeastern Conference (SEC) schools, so Saturdays in the fall are usually spent rooting for the Crimson Tide or Mizzou Tigers. A native of the NH Seacoast, he also enjoys reading, golf, tennis, kayaking and cooking.
