Timothy Halls

Partner

CFA®, CFP®

With over 30 years’ experience in the financial industry, Tim has broad and deep exposure to multiple financial disciplines including corporate and personal finance, economics, investment theory and practice, estate planning, qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, taxes and risk management and adult education. Putting this experience to work for the benefit of his clients starts with fully understanding what they are wishing to achieve, and then providing smart ideas for how to achieve it. This approach is applied with all of Tim’s core areas of focus, whether it’s managing the retirement plans of closely-held businesses, serving successful families as their Family CFO, or working with foundations and endowments in structuring and monitoring their investment portfolios.

Prior to joining Moneta in 2002, Tim spent nearly 14 years with Boatmen’s Bank of St. Louis, later merged into Bank of America, as Senior Vice President of Commercial and Institutional Banking. He was awarded his CFA Charter in 2003 and CFP designation in 2004.

At Moneta, Tim’s priority with his Family CFO clients is to understand their objectives and the specifics of their unique circumstances. This requires maintaining a high level of technical knowledge, and then applying it to each individual client’s specific situation. Perhaps as importantly, Tim uses his decades of business and life experience to assist clients with the challenging life decisions they must make – such as during the planning of wealth transfers to future generations.

For his qualified plan clients, Tim’s primary focus is employee education. The best investments and the most generous of employer matches are of no use if the employees do not participate, or if they make emotional, illogical investment decisions. Employee education is a centerpiece of his fully-bundled service to retirement plan sponsors, and it is targeted towards dramatically improving participants’ retirement outcomes. His passion for education complements the investment fiduciary services, plan design consulting and the oversite of the plan’s record-keeper/TPA he also provides.

Active in the community, Tim has served on the Boards of Prevent Child Abuse Missouri, the Delta Gamma Center for Visual Impairments, Kids Rock Cancer, among others. He currently is Vice President of the Webster Groves School District Foundation, a member of the Kingdom House Foundation board, and serves as Chairman on the membership committee of the Danforth Plant Science Center.
