St. Louis, Mo. (May 7, 2014) STEPS FOR HOPE, Cancer Support Community’s 16th Annual Cancer Survivorship Walk and Fun Run will be held Saturday, May 17th at Creve Coeur Park at 10:00 am to celebrate cancer survivors, honor the memory of loved ones and support the free services and programs that Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis (CSC) offers to people in the St. Louis area affected by cancer.

We are pleased to have long time supporters Ameren and Moneta Group as our STEPS FOR HOPE Empowerment Sponsors this year; their continued partnership makes a big difference in the lives of people impacted by cancer. Their sponsorships also provide funding for one of our monthly networking cancer support groups this year.

Honorary Chair, Fox 2 News Anchor Tom O’Neal, and our emcee, FM NewsTalk 97.1 DJ Mark Klose of the Dave Glover Show, will welcome walkers and runners at STEPS FOR HOPE. The day’s events will include the 1 or 3.7 mile walk, a fun run, and a raffle with prizes including an iPad mini and case, Cardinals tickets, museum memberships, a $500 Visa card, and a Chaumette Winery stay. Throughout the morning, CSC’s cancer survivorship event will feature St. Louis’ own dynamic percussion ensemble JOIA!, face painting and balloon animals for the kids and young at heart, a Zumba aerobic dance demonstration and more. We’ll have health and wellness information and will celebrate survivors at the Steps to Wellness Information booths. Light refreshments after the walk and places to rest for walkers along the route will be provided. Walkers will be given signs to wear honoring the names of loved ones that they are supporting or remembering. STEPS FOR HOPE will also feature the Inspiration Pavilion, an opportunity to share something – a picture, story, poem, etc. about the people who inspire you to walk for our cause. Food trucks provided by the St. Louis County Parks will offer lunch items for purchase or participants can bring their own picnic lunches.

There is no cost to walk in this event but walkers donating/ raising pledges of at least $45 after May 1 will be eligible for an official STEPS FOR HOPE T-shirt. All teams that raise over $1,000 will be entered in a drawing to win four Cardinals tickets. The funds raised from this event are critical to the mission of Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis which is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community to enhance their overall well-being. But this day is about more than fundraising – it’s about celebrating and honoring the people in our lives who have been touched by cancer. It’s also a fun day for families, friends, and co-workers to enjoy a day walking together in Creve Coeur Park for a good cause.

Be a part of this inspirational day and help support Cancer Support Community’s free programs and services for people and families in our community impacted by cancer.
