James Chalmers

Partner

CFP®, AIF®

As a Partner on the Sadler Harmon Chalmers Borglum Team, James Chalmers strives to deliver ‘Raving Fan’ service to every individual client. Acting as his clients’ Chief Financial Officer, he works to formulate appropriate financial strategies that are based on clients’ unique needs and goals.

One of James Chalmers’ biggest strengths is his ability to connect with people. He connects through his genuine sense of curiosity and eagerness to serve. He is passionate about understanding a person’s specific mission and purpose in life. As a natural, authentic leader with a strategic mind, he inspires and challenges the people around him to be better through thoughtful interaction.

James joined Moneta as an Advisor in 2015, bringing experience and technical expertise in the financial planning process, specifically with financial planning technologies. He quickly realized the major differences between a brokerage firm and a “pure” financial planning firm like Moneta. He now enjoys the opportunity to lend his skills to the best interests of his clients through examining client’s current situations, setting financial goals, and measuring progress towards those goals.

Given his technical history in the financial planning industry, James served on Moneta’s technology committee that eventually helped implement the firm’s core technology stack. James earned his B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the John Cook School of Business at Saint Louis University. Prior to joining Moneta, he worked as a Business Initiatives Manager at Wells Fargo Advisors. In this role, he helped create best practices for financial planning applications, provided project support for many of the firm’s strategic initiatives, and lead the firm’s mobile platform projects aimed at enhancing the client experience. James also worked as a Sales Advisory Consultant, which involved management, training, and leadership coaching to financial advisors across the country, as well as marketing oversight surrounding the financial planning process.

Outside of Moneta, James is an active member of the community and is involved in multiple charitable organizations in St. Louis. He enjoys soccer, skiing, hockey, swimming, and spending time with his family and friends.
