Gus Gast, CPA
As a Moneta Group Family CFO, Gus Gast thrives on the variety of challenges he encounters. “My practice is largely composed of both active and retired executives, professionals and business owners—each with a unique set of concerns. I’m energized by the possibilities different situations present and really enjoy unraveling each individual’s issues so that, in working together, we can create a comprehensive, long-term plan that really helps each client come to terms with what is important to them.” A dynamic environment, with every client bringing a unique set of circumstances to the table, suits Gast well.
Gast’s first experiences in the financial services industry were in public accounting at Price Waterhouse and later as treasurer handling banking, SEC reporting and mergers and acquisitions in a publicly-traded company going through an evolutionary phase. “When the changes were complete and the routine set in, I grew antsy,” he says. Those experiences were followed by ground-floor involvement in two start-up companies. “That was exciting work. I loved the variety and excitement of creating something new. I came to understand that I am much happier working in an environment where an entrepreneurial spirit is encouraged, and Moneta Group provides the right environment for me.”
In fact, Gast was a Moneta client before becoming a principal. “I think that demonstrates the importance of knowing your limits, being comfortable with and effective at delegation and then finding the right kind of help – an advocate,” he says. “I certainly had the skills and expertise to manage my own financial life, but I didn’t have the time.” A consistent, disciplined approach and sufficient time and resources to oversee a comprehensive financial plan were things Gast knew were important for long-term financial success. “Having been a Moneta client, I understand the concerns and expectations clients have, and I’m dedicated to providing the customized, independent service they expect and deserve.”
A graduate of the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Accountancy, Gast is a CPA. He has been at Moneta Group for more than eight years. “When the opportunity presented itself to join the company, I knew it was the right choice,” he says. “I like so much of what we accomplish as a team, but I particularly enjoy seeing the results of a good plan, well managed. New clients come to Moneta because they’re concerned about something affecting their financial future. My job is to help them identify those issues and put solutions in place. As we work together over time, and see the long-term results, it’s very satisfying.”
Gast and his wife, Kelly, have three children. When not coaching or cheering on his children in various sports from the sidelines, he enjoys hunting and golf.
