Patrick J. Howley III, CFPâ, MBA

In a career spanning more than 25 years, Pat has acquired extensive experience in banking at both Landmark and Mark Twain Banks, focusing on financial planning and investment management. As a branch manager at A.G. Edwards, Pat was one of the first brokers to adopt the financial planning approach to client service. “The same core values Moneta prizes were in force at A.G. Edwards,” Pat says. “The most important component of an investment strategy has to be the client. That’s why I wanted to be part of Moneta Group; here I can do what is truly best for clients, and that is vital to the process. Providing a true service—not only investment advice, but long-term, comprehensive planning—allows me to take care of clients and help them achieve their goals.”

Pat earned a B.S. in business administration at Quincy College where he played on four National soccer championship teams and was recently inducted into the college’s Hall of Fame. Pat enjoyed playing professional soccer with the Denver Avalanche and signed with the St. Louis Steamers for the 1983 season. “When I retired from soccer, I began looking for a good fit at local brokerage firms.  I had always been attracted to the world of investments and financial planning.”  Pat joined Newhard & Cook, but finding himself relegated mostly to research, he returned to school to earn his MBA from Saint Louis University.

Pat says that many of his early clients were his friends and many of his subsequent clients have become friends. “I really do care about people and about making things better for them,” he says. “To really serve my clients’ needs, planning has to be approached on a case-by-case basis. Each client has a unique set of goals and aspirations for themselves, their families and their businesses.” People have very individualized notions about wealth, he says, and each family develops its own values. The decisions clients make must honor those beliefs. “My responsibility is to help people think about the complexities facing them, and then help them establish their goals for the future. Some families want plans that include philanthropy, some have other ideas about what to do with family wealth. Moneta Group’s values truly resonate with me. This is a place I’ll be able to best serve the interests of my clients, always putting them first.”

The future, he says, is compelling. “I plan to keep working and hope to build a practice that will focus on exceeding the expectations of my clients, providing them with the Raving Fan service Moneta is noted for. I want to get back to what attracted me to this industry; serving my clients well.” Pat received the Five-Star Best in Client Service award in 2009 and 2010.

Pat and his wife, Gina, have three children: Megan, 16, Caitlin, 14 and Patrick, 11. In addition to coaching his kids’ soccer teams and playing in an over-50 men’s soccer league, Pat enjoys golf, skiing, tennis and fitness.
