In 1905, Moneta Group opened its doors in downtown St. Louis. The firm moved to Clayton in 1958, and celebrated its 50th year as a Clayton corporate citizen in 2008. Over the past 100 years, Moneta has evolved into a comprehensive financial planning firm with total assets under management of more than $8 billion as of December 31, 2009. The firm serves as Family CFO to just over 2,000 client families.

In 2004, Moneta Group’s Advisory Board, a steering committee composed of the firm’s clients, expressed concern that our independent status invited potential for buyout. This, they felt, could inevitably impact the personal attention, flexibility and service to which the firm’s clients have grown accustomed.

In response to that concern, Moneta Group restructured itself, with all principals becoming owners. A pre-determined exit strategy was put in place wherein retiring principals will sell their interests to Moneta’s own new generation of principals, thereby making it unnecessary to sell the firm to outside interests. The new operating structure helps ensure that clients can look forward to multi-generational relationships with an independent Moneta Group.
